Friendship Group

Run by Zarina, our Volunteer and Patient Activities Coordinator.

The Friendship Group began in October 2023 as a project for dementia patients and their carers. The aim was to provide a welcoming space where carers could bring their loved ones to meet others facing similar challenges.

With the support of volunteers, the loved ones take part in activities such as puzzles, games, quizzes, and singing, while the carers enjoy some time together.

Light refreshments are provided during each session.

We regularly host themed days throughout the year such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, and VE Day where all members can enjoy time together in a festive atmosphere.

A lively WhatsApp group has also developed, encouraging increased social interaction outside of the weekly sessions.

The success of the group has led to its expansion, now welcoming others with limited social access and changed from the Dementia Cafe to the Friendship Group.

The group meets every Wednesday from 11:00am to 1:30pm at the Oaktree Centre in Shenley Brook End.

The Oaktree Centre is an ideal venue: bright, airy, and fully accessible. It has a dedicated car park, including disabled parking spaces, and there are no steps or ramps making it easy for all attendees to access.
